1937 Gibson RB-3 Original 5-String Flathead FON 1288-2

This RB-3 original 5-string flathead was shipped to H. Polliack & Co Ltd in South Africa.on May 27, 1937. It has a one-piece flange and a chrome plated, heavy weight high-profile 20 hole flathead tone ring. The tension hoop is a TB/PB style which is not uncommon to see on RB style banjos. The rim has it’s original orange/mahogany color finish, serial number stamped in the correct font and the label is not cut. All hardware, including the 5-string Presto tail-piece, is original and nickel plated except for the ring and armrest which is chrome plated. Original 5-string mahogany neck and resonator. The resonator has it’s original finish with white/black/white concentric rings. The neck had a heel crack that was professionally repaired and the back of the neck has been refinished.  “Made in the USA” is stamped on the back of the peg-head. The fingerboard is Brazilian with newer frets. The tuners are Grover pancakes with a geared 5th tuner installed.  This is an extremely sweet sounding and powerful banjo.
