“Banks of the Ohio River”

Played by Steve Huber & The Flatheads

Our Huber VRB-G is a replica of the classic Granada style banjo, featuring our 1930’s replica HR-30 Tone Ring and Engineered Rim.

The neck and resonator are carefully crafted from the finest flamed maple, with a rich golden sunburst finish. The flamed maple neck imparts a classic rich “heavy-note” sound to the VRB-G, most reminiscent of legendary performers like Earl Scruggs and Sonny Osborne.

The rosewood fingerboard and double cut headstock overlay are inlaid with the classic Hearts & Flowers pattern, and the gold plated parts feature Granada-style engraving.

By default, we use a Hearts & Flowers inlay with 8 markers, but can inlay the 9 or 10 marker variations at no additional charge. Likewise, our Granada replica can be built with the Flying Eagle pattern, again with no change in total price.

The white/black/white binding along the neck and resonator is color-treated to approximate an aged finish, with what we call our antique binding. Reproduction “gumdrop” amber tuner buttons complete the vintage look of this model.

HUBER VRB-4 TRUETONE

“Honey You Don’t Know My Mind”

Played by Steve Huber & The Flatheads

Our VRB-4 is a careful replica of the pre-war style 4 banjos featuring a blend of walnut and chrome that is very pleasing to the eye. It features our 1930’s replica HR-30 Tone Ring and Engineered Rim.

The neck is made from the highest quality straight grain walnut, which is also used for the resonator side walls. The walnut neck imparts a sweet tone with a clarity between the notes like no other model.

The resonator back features gorgeous figured walnut, inlaid with twin concentric rings of stained wood marquetry. Antiqued white/black/white binding finishes both the rosewood fingerboard and resonator side walls. The fingerboard and headstock are inlaid with the Flying Eagle pattern synonymous with style 4 banjos from the pre-war era, though the Hearts & Flowers pattern can be used at no additional charge.

In keeping with the originals from the 1930’s, all the metal parts on our VRB-4 are chrome plated. Reproduction “grained ivoroid” tuner buttons complete the vintage look on this model.

HUBER VRB-3 TRUETONE

“Fireball Mail”

The VRB-3 is our reproduction of the pre-war style-3 banjo, surely the most common of all the 1930’s flatheads. It features a mahogany neck and resonator, with our 1930’s replica HR-30 Tone Ring and Engineered Rim.

The mahogany neck imparts a sweetness to this model with a warm blending of notes that create a classic bluegrass sound. The rosewood fingerboard and double cut headstock overlay are inlaid with a style-3 pattern. It is finished with a natural mahogany stain, with antiqued binding and antique metal finish on the nickel parts. Reproduction “grained ivoroid” tuner buttons complete the vintage look on this model.

HUBER VRB-75

“Down the Road”

Played by Steve Huber & The Flatheads

The VRB-75 is a reproduction of one of the pre-war style-75 banjos. It features our 1930’s replica HR-30 Tone Ring and Engineered Rim.

This banjo is built with a straight-grain maple neck and a mahogany resonator. The straight-grain maple neck imparts a biting-edge to the notes with a bright tone which will cut through the strongest rhythm section. As an option this model is also available with a mahogany neck for a sweeter, warmer sound.

The rosewood fingerboard and double cut headstock overlay are inlaid with a 1941 style-75 pattern. The style-75 banjos were shipped prior to 1941 with all manner of inlay patterns, and we offer replicas of many of them.

It is finished in a natural mahogany, with antiqued binding and antique metal finish on the nickel parts. Reproduction “tulip” amber tuner buttons complete the vintage look on this model.

HUBER LEXINGTON

“Reuben”

Played by Jim Mills, from the album, “Team Flathead

“Snowflake Reel”

Played by Greg Cahill, from the album, “Team Flathead”

Sunburst maple and engraved gold have long been hallmarks of exceptional banjos. The Lexington refines this tradition with a look all its own, and a sound that recalls the classic 1930’s flatheads.

Both the neck and the resonator are made from flamed maple with a hand rubbed sunburst finished resonator. The flamed maple neck imparts a classic dark “heavy-note” sound to the VRB-G, most reminiscent of legendary performers like Earl Scruggs and Sonny Osborne. The Lexington engraving pattern is unique to Huber Banjos and can be found on the arm rest, tension hoop and tailpiece.

All metal parts are plated in house with a heavy gold,  giving the Lexington metal parts a deep, rich gold color. The pot is built using our original “vintage” tone ring and rim.

HUBER LANCASTER

“Home Sweet Home”

Played by Jason Burleson, from the album, “Cuppa `Jo”

“Evening Prayer Blues”

Played by Steve Huber, from the album, “Team Flathead”

Historically our most popular model, the Lancaster uses a mahogany neck and resonator with nickel-plated parts for a classic look. It is fair to suggest that the majority of banjos manufactured since the early 20th century have been mahogany and nickel.

The neck and resonator are made from choice mahogany with a natural mahogany finish. The rosewood fingerboard and peghead overlay feature the standard Huber inlay pattern. The mahogany neck imparts a sweetness to this model with a warm blending of notes that create a classic bluegrass sound.

The resonator features twin concentric rings in the back. The neck is inlaid with the original Huber pattern and the pot is built using our original Huber “Vintage” tone ring and rim.

HUBER ROANOKE

“Cotton Eyed Joe”

Played by Jim Mills, from the album, “Team Flathead”

The Roanoke combines a slightly more ornate peghead overlay with the rich color of walnut and the simplicity of a nickel-plated banjo. The striking, highly-figured walnut resonator with its contrasting inlaid wood rings makes for an instrument that is as much a treat for the eyes as it is the ears.

The walnut neck imparts a sweet tone with a clarity between which only walnut can give. Both the neck and the resonator are stained with a natural walnut finish, with the neck bound in white/black/white. The neck is inlaid with the original Huber pattern and the pot is built using our original Huber “Vintage” tone ring and rim.

HUBER KALAMAZOO

“Red Rooster”

Played by Sammy Shelor, from the album, “Team Flathead”

“Red River Valley”

Played by Ron Stewart, from the album, “Team Flathead”

The inspiration for the Kalamazoo model, with it’s combination of a mahogany resonator with a straight grain maple neck and radiused fingerboard, came from one of Steve Huber’s most prized pre war flatheads.

The fingerboard is cut to a 14” radius with the original Huber inlay pattern. The headstock is inlaid with a classic fleur-de-lis design.

The Kalamazoo is nickel plated and elegant in its simplicity of design – with all the tone you would expect from a fine Huber banjo.
